Towards deciphering the Cenozoic evolution of the East Pisco Basin (southern Peru)

The Cenozoic succession of the East Pisco Basin preserves sedimentary record several episodes deformation forearc crust along Peruvian margin. 1:50,000 scale geological map presented here encompasses an area about 1,000 km2 lying astride Ica River, and contributes to our understanding timing mode basin filling deformation. Our novel two-fold megasequence framework provides a sound basis for establishing first-order tectono-stratigraphic setting mid-Eocene–upper Miocene exposed in study area. We interpret that mid-Eocene lower Oligocene studied this work (megasequence P) was deposited single basin, which dissected into present-day West basins by fault-bounded basement high during late Oligocene, subsequently overlain fill N).
